M365 Changelog: Version management now available on the “Office installation options” page in the Microsoft 365 admin center

MC249247 – Microsoft has added new functionality to the Office installation options page in the Microsoft 365 admin center: version management.

For Office installations configured to use Monthly Enterprise Channel, version management gives you the ability to do the following tasks:

  • Roll back to a previous version
  • Skip an upcoming version

If you’re having a problem with the current version of Monthly Enterprise Channel that you’re using, you can roll back devices in your organization to a previous version of Monthly Enterprise Channel.

If you want to stay on the current version of Monthly Enterprise Channel that you’re using, you can skip the next scheduled version for Monthly Enterprise Channel. But you can only skip one version at a time.

When this will happen

Version management is available now if you have selected Monthly Enterprise Channel for feature updates on the Office installation options page in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

For more information about configuring the update channel for new and existing installations of Office in your organization, see the “Choose how often to get feature updates for Office” section of Manage Office installation options in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

How this will affect your organization

This only affects devices in your organization that are configured to receive feature updates for Office from Monthly Enterprise Channel.

Version management does NOT apply if you’re already using some other method to manage Office on devices in your organization. For example, if you’re using the following:

  • Office policy settings (with Group Policy or Office cloud policy service)
  • Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager
  • Microsoft Intune

What you need to do to prepare

Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center with your admin account and go to Settings > Org settings > Services > Office installation options. If you have selected Monthly Enterprise Channel for feature updates on the Installation options tab, then you will also see the Version management tab.Additional information
