M365 Changelog: Forms: New features in Teams polls in meetings

MC245021 – By integrating Teams and the Forms app, we have created a new way for meeting presenters to poll attendees. Adding a Forms poll in Teams Meetings uses the customized meetings experiences outlined in MC224434 (October 2020) and MC225995 (December 2020). With this update, Polls in Teams Meetings now support guests and provides an optimized mobile experience.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 79448.

When this will happen

Rollout should begin mid-April and be complete late April.

How this will affect your organization

With this update, anonymous (guess) attendees will be able to view the poll and vote just like registered users. Previously, anonymous attendees vote on a poll in Meeting chat. This update is available for Teams desktop apps, Teams on the web, and Teams mobile.

Currently, in order to create a poll using Teams mobile, a meeting organizer or presenter must first add polls to the meeting chat using the Teams desktop app or Teams on the web.

With this update, meeting presenters will be able to create a poll in Teams mobile, either before or during a meeting. They will also be able to launch a poll using their mobile device.

What you need to do to prepare

Meeting organizers can set who should be a presenter when creating a meeting or after a meeting has begun.

If you would like to manage who in your tenant should have the presenter role, adjust the default value of the Who can present? setting in Meeting options in the Teams client.

If you do not want presenters in your tenant to be able to poll meeting attendees using the Forms app, you will need to block the app in the Microsoft Teams admin center.
