M365 Changelog: New Update for Teams Phones Coming Soon

MC279088 – Updated October 7, 2021: The Teams Phones Update 3 and 3A have been delayed due to an issue in admin agent that causes phones going offline in Teams Admin Center. The new release date for these updates is currently unknown. Microsoft will update you via Message center when they are ready to proceed. Thank you for your patience.

Microsoft is introducing the following new features and improvements for Microsoft Teams on Desk Phones in September:

  • Remote Sign-out from Teams Admin Center (TAC) Portal – admins can provision devices from TAC, remotely sign in and now also sign out from devices
  • Branch office survivability for Teams phones allowing users to make PSTN calls even when the internet connection is down
  • Log collection enhancements – admins can now download all logs (company portal, device management, and media) from TAC
  • Bug fixes related to authentication

When this will happen:

Microsoft has delayed this release and will communicate via Message center when they are ready to proceed.

How this will affect your organization:

The improvements and features above will provide users and admins with better Teams Phones experience.

What you need to do to prepare:

If you are a member of Teams Technology Adoption Program (TAP) program, you may start testing the new update in late August once the preview version is released.
